Does Creatine Make You Hornier? (Explained)

There are over 500 peer-reviewed publications about creatine supplementation, yet still, many people have misconceptions about what creatine does and does not. Today I will explain if creatine can make you hornier and if it has any effect on your sex drive.

As a whole, regular resistance training accompanied with creatine supplementation does increase testosterone levels, which can increase your sex drive and can make you hornier. However, there is no evidence that creatine alone can increase testosterone levels and sexual desire.

There you have my overall answer, but if you wanna know more details about if taking creatine supplements can help you last longer in bed, keep reading.

Can creatine supplements make you hornier?

Creatine is a substance found naturally in muscle cells. It helps your muscles produce ATP during resistance training and during high-intensity exercise. From the research perspective, creatine is one of the most studied supplements out there.

However, among over 500 publications on creatine, there is not information much about any direct impact of creatine on sex drive and libido.

Many supplements including ginkgo biloba, tribulus terrestris, and trigonella have a positive effect on sexual desire by improving the blood flow and providing a relaxing effect on smooth muscle.

Creatine was not one of them.

Does creatine make you more sexually excited?

In general, creatine supplements do not have a direct impact on libido and sexual desire. However, creatine can have an indirect effect on your sex drive by lowering stress, improving mood, and increasing testosterone levels, as long as it’s taken in conjunction with resistance training.

On the other hand, taking creatine supplements alone without doing any form of physical activity or resistance training is unlikely to directly increase your libido and make you hornier.

Let’s break this down.

Creatine and strength training help with testosterone

One of the reasons why creatine can make you hornier and help with sex drive is becasue people who use creatine also do weight training (or any high-intensity activity).

I currently don’t take creatine, but I definitively notice big improvements in my sex drive after resistance training (as long as I keep the volume and intensity optimal).

Obviously, if you take creatine and you lift weights it will help you increase your strength, muscle mass, and (no surprise here) baseline testosterone levels.

Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, and it’s not a secret that lifting heavy weights does increase testosterone in the blood (temporarily), which can make you hornier.

NOTE: Training intensity and training volume are important.

According to Anthony C. Hackney, Ph.D., DSc, a professor from the University of North Carolina, “higher levels of chronic intense and greater durations of endurance training on a regular basis is significantly associated with decreased libido scores in men”.

Dr. Hackney said that people with mid-range training intensities had greater odds of high/normal libido state, compared to people who trained at the highest training intensity.

Creatine alone does not increase testosterone levels

It’s important to understand that creatine alone does not have a positive impact on testosterone levels.

Among 500 scientific studies on creatine, around 12 have investigated the effects of this supplement on testosterone. Most of the results have shown no change in testosterone concentration.

Some people had lower sex drive after taking creatine

There are some anecdotal stories available online from people who said that their libido went down after taking creatine supplements for multiple months or years. According to online forums, people experience an almost immediate drop off of their sex drive, as well as lower erections after taking creatine.

And once they stopped taking the supplement, the sex drive went back to normal.

In my experience, I haven’t noticed any changes during and after taking creatine. My libido and sex drive were the same for 2 months. The only things that can negatively impact my sex drive are stress, alcohol, and lack of sleep.

Creatine lower stress and can make you more relaxed

As a whole, creatine supplements can help you sexually and make you hornier for a couple of reasons. Firstly, creatine helps to reduce mental fatigue after a stressful time. Secondly, creatine lower stress levels, which has a positive effect on your sexual desire.

Let me explain.

It’s not a secret that lower sex drive is related to stress. Studies have shown that daily stress and a busy lifestyle are one of the few things that can lower your sex drive.

One of the leading Lebanese medical centers Hôtel-Dieu de France has published a study that looks at the impact of stress and burnout on the sexual desire of trainee doctors.

According to the researchers, “the rate of low sexual desire among women in medicine in our institution is higher than the world’s standard”.

So how does creatine help?

Simple.

Creatine supplement has a positive effect not only on physical performance but also on mental performance, mood, and cognitive performance.

According to Brent Kious, MD, Ph.D., an assistant professor from the University of Utah, creatine might have an antidepressant effect. People who supplement with 8 g of creatine per day for 5 days managed to reduce mental fatigue, said Dr. Kious.

This means that creatine not only has a positive effect on physical performance but also on mental state. Therefore people who take creatine (even without going to the gym) can feel better, be more relaxed, and (surprise surprise) feel hornier.

Creatine can make you last longer in bed

In general, creatine supplementation can have an indirect positive impact on your physical performance, therefore, it can help to last longer in bed.

When creatine is used in conjunction with resistance training, it does elevate androgen levels and drives up the libido.

However, there is not much information about the effects of creatine on bedroom performance without exercise.

Btw, I would love to take part in this study (wink).

So, does creatine make you hornier?

In general, there is no evidence that taking creatine can directly improve your sex drive.

However, multiple studies have shown that creatine does improve lean muscle mass, lowers depression, and improves cognitive performance, which can all contribute to higher libido.

Optimal training volume and intensity are important because overtraining can have the opposite effect.

Conclusion

  • Creatine, also known as methyl guanidine-acetic acid, is one of the most popular supplements taken by athletes and physically active people.
  • Studies have shown that short sleep duration and poor sleep quality lead to low sexual desire.
  • Taking creatine supplements can affect you sexually by improving cognitive performance and mood state, especially for people with poor sleep quality.
  • The current evidence does not indicate that creatine supplementation increases total testosterone or free testosterone levels.
