When You Shouldn’t Tip Peloton Delivery Team?

I always leave the tip for anyone who provided service that was above and beyond my expectations. Today I want to clarify if you should tip the peloton team for delivering your bike, and if so, how much is appropriate.

In general, you should tip peloton delivery drivers, especially if you feel like they did a great job and truly helped you to get the bike set up and working. On the other hand, if you weren’t satisfied with your delivery, had a bad experience, and your questions weren’t answered, you should not leave the tip.

But what if you didn’t get stellar service and were left with the boxes on your driveway?

Do You Tip The Peloton Delivery Man?

According to Dave Ramsey, an American personal finance expert, “it’s important to remember that you can’t go wrong with being generous if you’re in a good financial position. Remember, your tip says more about you than the person you’re leaving it for” (source).

When my peloton arrived, both of the drivers were extremely helpful. Not only did they show me how everything works, but they also were ready to address any questions.

Some things that stuck in my memory.

  • They stabilized the peloton bike legs and showed how to fix wobbling issue.
  • They explained how to set up the screen and sync with my TV.
  • They showed me how to change pedals if I ever needed switch to toe cages.
  • They clean all the boxes and packaging from my apartment

It was an overall positive experience and I did tip both of the drivers as a way to express my appreciation for their work.

Is tipping mandatory? As a whole, tipping is by no means mandatory nor expected because there are no laws that say how much gratuity should be paid. Studies have shown that tipping is mainly predicated by service quality, friendliness, bill size, and patronage frequency (Lynn 1993).

I look at tipping others not only as a way to express my appreciation for someone’s work but also it’s a way to make me feel good about myself.

That’s how I was raised.

Of course, I don’t tip every delivery people who come with the parcels to my home (except the pizza guy).

Tipping Peloton Delivery vs FedEx

The difference between peloton delivery and FedEx delivery is that the peloton crew not only brings you the bike or tread but also spends 30 to 40 minutes to set up and help you get started. The FedEx or UPS carriers just deliver the parcels.

The peloton delivery team is also ready to explain every detail about the hardware, as well as the software. Plus, if you’ve never used cycling shoes before, they will help you position your delta cleats, as well as set up the bike height and handlebar distance.

For you, this may sound like no big deal, but for beginners who’ve never done indoor cycling, this step is very important.

Is tipping required for peloton? As a whole, tipping the peloton delivery team is a non-obligatory behavior. Compensation for satisfying and helpful service is a social norm determined by the individual customs, rather than a mandatory practice because you already paid for the service upfront.

Is The Delivery Fee Included With Peloton?

In short, the peloton delivery and assembly fee is already included in the price for the bike and tread. This means that tipping your peloton drivers is always at your discretion. The delivery and assembly process takes around 30 minutes and every step is handled by the peloton team.

How hard is it to move a peloton bike? In general, the peloton bike is not hard to move because it has wheels on the back. You can leverage the bike by applying pressure and lifting the tail of the bike, which will make it easier to move around.

However, moving peloton tread is not easy and it’s a two-man job.

When You Should Tip For Peloton Delivery?

In general, you should tip for peloton delivery when you were fully pleased with the service and your bike was adjusted to your needs. Also, if you live in the apartment complex this means they guys have to carry the boxes all the way up for you.

The amount of money to give will totally depend on your economy and what notes you have with you. Alternatively, if you don’t have any notes handy, you can always offer bottled water or soda as a gratuity.

Before I got my peloton delivered, I put “tips” on my delivery checklist, right next to the number of questions that I wanted to ask. This way I didn’t forget to prepare $20 notes for each of the guys.

On the other hand, if your delivery was a terrible experience, drivers were late and you had to assemble all the parts by yourself, then you should not leave the tip.

How Much Do You Tip Peloton Delivery?

As a whole, giving a tip between $20 to $50 per person for peloton delivery is a good rule of thumb, depending on your assembly requirements and budget. If the peloton crew went the extra mile and delivered a “white-glove experience”, they deserve a tip.

So be kind, generous, and use your best judgment.

However, a great delivery experience isn’t always the case.

I’ve heard many stories about peloton drivers living the package under the door, without getting the bike up and running.

Conclusion

Tipping for peloton delivery is voluntary and everyone is free to pay (or not) for the service that has been already received and charged.

In the United States, people who receive tips are usually bartenders, barbers, hairstylists, casino croupiers, housekeeping staff, taxi drivers, and restaurant staff.

However, it is not uncommon to also tip for other services like delivery movers, contractors, chiropractors, massage therapists, or babysitters.

The amount of tip to give to the peloton guys will depend on your personal budget and the overall quality of the delivery.
